"Borges and the Kabbalah: From Literature to Image" by Mirta Kupferminc
Thu, October 21, 2010 • 7:00 PM • Benedict Hall, Room 2.104
Ms. Kupferminc, an eminent Argentine Jewish artist, will present and discuss her work.
Daughter of a Hungarian mother and Polish father, both Auschwitz survivors. She works and lives in Buenos Aires.
Her parent´s history of exile and immigration influences all her work.
The fact that she was raised without photos or objects preceding her parents arrival in Argentina made Mirta think about the importance of durability of matter: this is reflected in her artistic work.
She became a widow of her first marriage, and is now married to Kurt Frieder. She has two sons, Daniel and Tobías, and an extended family with Kurt’s daughters of a previous marriage.
Mirta and her sister travelled to Europe with their parents at the age of six, and this event shaped her perception of the world.
