Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies

Major: The Major consists of twenty four semester hours of coursework in Jewish studies, including Jewish Studies 301 (Introduction to Jewish Studies) and twenty one additional hours of upper-division coursework. Of the twenty one upper-division hours, a minimum of three hours is required in each one of the following areas: humanities and arts, history, social science. All Jewish Studies courses listed in this brochure can be taken for partial fulfillment of the requirements, as may any other course indicated by a JS prefix in the course catalogue. Students are encouraged to use Hebrew or Yiddish to fulfill the foreign language requirement.  (Above requirements to take effect after modifications to the degree plan in the 2002-2004 catalog)

Minor for Jewish Studies majors: The Minor for Jewish studies majors comprises twelve semester hours, including at least six hours of upper-division coursework, in any one other field of study in the University. If the minor is in a foreign language other than that used to fulfill the Area A foreign language requirement, the twelve hours may be lower-division credits, but must include at least six hours beyond course 507 or the equivalent.

Minor in Jewish Studies for non-Majors: A minor in Jewish Studies usually consists of twelve semester hours, at least six of them at the upper-division level.
