Artemy Troitsky is a celebrated Russian activist, cultural critic, university lecturer and journalist. He is author of “Back in the U. S. S. R. : The True Story of Rock in Russia” (1987), “Tusovka: Who’s Who in New Soviet Rock Culture” (1990), as well as several recent Russian-language volumes on music and culture in Russia. He has lent his voice to the Putin-era culture wars, including the circumstances around the arrest, imprisonment, and recent release of Russian punk band members, “Pussy Riot.”
