Texas leads the nation in the percentage of its residents who speak Spanish at home, but not everyone in Texas speaks Spanish the same way.  This workshop will help educators to understand the origins of such avariation and how a focus on language as it is actually spoken can enhance the classroom experience.  Using authentic video samples from the Spanish in Texas Corpus project, workshop participants will collaborate in creating activities to promote students interest in their own and others' language practices.  This workshop offers 4 hours of CPE credits and free lunch to registered participants!

Presenters: Dr. Barbara E. Bullock and Dr. Almeida Jacqueline Toribio
, Directors of the Spanish in Texas Corpus ProjectDr. José Esteban Hernández, Associate Professor of Spanish Linguistics at The University of Texas-Pan American; Patricia González, Adjunct Faculty, Texas A&M International University and Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Linguistics, Texas A&M University; Dr. Carl Blyth,
Director of the Center for Open Educational Resources & Language Learning (COERLL)
