Maria Carreira is a professor of Spanish at California State University, Long Beach.  Her research focuses on heritage languages, with a concentration in Spanish in the US as well as the less commonly taught languages.  Professor Carreira's recent work focuses on identity, resilience, and heritage language development and maintenance.  She is also co-director of the National Heritage Language Resource Center at UCLA, Chair of the SAT Spanish Committee, Associate Editor of Hispania, and has authored four university-level Spanish textbooks.  Professor Carreira has also received numerous awards, including being named most valuable professor in the College of Liberal Arts.

Olga Kagan is a professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at The University of California, Los Angeles.  Her research focuses on heritage language learners of Russian.  She is the co-author of the several textbooks of Russian as a foreign language and three of Russian as a heritage language, including Russian for Russians.  Dr. Kagan has been teaching at UCLA since 1981 and is currently the director of the Title VI National Heritage Language Resource Center which offers materials, resources and teacher training to advance heritage language instruction and learning.  Since 2000 Professor Kagan has served on the Steering Committee of the UC Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the American Council of Teachers of Russian.
