This talk will explore the potential of Open Education for improving the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Open Education is a collective term that refers to forms of education in which knowledge, ideas, or important aspects of teaching methodology or infrastructure are shared freely over the Internet. In particular, the rapid expansion of open educational resources (OERs) and their impact on the field of Foreign Language Education will be discussed.

This talk will focus on the challenges of (re)constructing the teaching Self affecting traditional notions of identity formation in a period of cultural globalization.  Using these contentions, Dr. Kumaravadivelu will briefly outline two narratives of identity formation -- modern and postermodern -- and argue that a third -- globalism -- is fast emerging as a crucial factor in identity formation.
