2012 TLC Professional Development Awards Receipents Announced!

The Texas Language Center is pleased to announce its Professional Development Award recipients for 2012! These awards are made to instructors of languages other than English at UT who are seeking to develop new materials, courses, or methods for teaching their languages, or who may need to attend a conference or purchase materials in order to improve their teaching.

The awards, ranging in value from $200-$1500, will be used to supplement instructor salaries, purchase materials, and/or subvent travel to professional conferences. This year’s recipients, including graduate students, lecturers, and tenured or tenure-track faculty, are:

  • Fehintola Mosadomi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Yoruba Yemi Book II”
  • Antonella Olson, Distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of French and Italian—“Intensive Italian: Videos by, with, and for Students of Italian”
  • Per Urlaub, Assistant Professor in the Department of Germanic Studies—“’Leute – Land – Kultur’: A Cultural Portfolio for Beginning Learners of German”
  • Marina Potoplyak, Lecturer in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies—“Acquisition and Development of Authentic Materials”
  • Dale Koike, Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Development of Applied Linguistics Interface”
  • Jacqueline Toribio, Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Language and Ethnic Identity”
  • Orlando Kelm, Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Update of Online Language Videos ”
  • Wen-Hua Teng, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies—“Chinese Podcasts: Listening Practices On-the-Go”
  • Dygo Tosa, Assistant Instructor in the Department of Classics—“Bridging AP Latin and Classics at UT”
  • Midori Tanaka, Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies—“Preparation for a New Upper Division Course KPN327”
  • Michael Pesenson, Assistant Professor in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies—“Creating Materials for an Applied Literature Course”
  • Lucia Osa-Melero, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Reading Activities for Heritage Speakers ”
  • Jennifer Ebbler, Associate Professor in the Department of Classics—“A Website for Assistant Instructors in Classics”
  • Melissa Murphy, Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Independent Learning through Authentic Media in Intermediate Spanish I”
  • Laila Familiar, Lecturer in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Integrating Culture into the Classroom”
  • Jose-Enrique Navarro, Assistant Instructor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Social Media Tools and Collaborative Learning”
  • Rocio Del Aguila, Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Bringing Sound from the Clouds”
  • Joshua Frank, Assistant Instructor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Funding to Attend the Sixth Heritage Language Research Institute at UCLA “
  • Kristen Brustad, Associate Professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Intensive Persian Auto-correct Exercises”
  • Paula Park, Assistant Instructor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—“Professionalism in the Spanish-speaking World”
  • Bernadeta Kaminska, Lecturer in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies—“Northeast Confrence on Teaching Foreign Languages”
