2014 TLC Professional Development Awards

Eleven grants awarded

The Texas Language Center is pleased to announce its Professional Development Award recipients for 2014! These awards are made to instructors of languages other than English at UT who are seeking to develop new materials, courses, or methods for teaching their languages, or who may need to attend a conference or purchase materials in order to improve their teaching.

The awards will be used to supplement instructor salaries, purchase materials, and/or subvent travel to professional conferences. This year’s recipients, including graduate students, lecturers, and tenured or tenure-track faculty, are:

  • Blake Atwood, Assistant Professor in Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Persian Bridge Studies”
  • Sarah Baker, Graduate Student in Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Interactive Online Materials for Intesive Biblical Hebrew”
  • Laila Familiar, Lecturer in Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Khallina (Let's!): An open source website for teaching and studying Arab culture”
  • Paul Hay, Assistant Instructor in Classics Department—“Digital Supplementation of LAT 507”
  • Bernadetta Kaminski, Lecturer in Slavic and Eurasian Studies—“Creating New Teaching Materials”
  • Fehintola Mosadomi, Assistant Professor in Department of Middle Eastern Studies—“Collecting authentic data/materials for the new Yoruba language text "Yoruba Gbadun"
  • Melissa Murphy, Lecturer in Spanish and Portuguese Department—“Training by Example: Spanish & Portuguese Classroom Video Corpus”
  • Kyung Park, Senior Lecturer in Asian Studies—“Decveloping Supplemental Materials for the Third-Year Korean I Course”
  • Naoko Suito, Senior Lecturer in Asian Studies—“Online listening/speaking activities for the JOHSU study-help site”
  • Jacqueline Toribio, Professor in Spanish and Portuguese Department—“'Spanglish?'" The course for a new generation”
  • Per Urlaub, Assistant Professor in Germanic Studies Department—“2014 ACTFL Proficiency Assessments Summer Institute”
