CMAS Student Poster Art Scholarship Reception
Thu, January 31, 2013 | Ballroom North (2.421), Student Activity Center, The University of Texas at Austin
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
CMAS is proud to invite the public to attend the official unveiling of the winning submissions for the Fourth Annual CMAS Student Poster Art Scholarship Competition on Thursday, January 31, 2013 in the Ballroom North (2.421) of the Student Activities Center (SAC) at The University of Texas at Austin.
The theme for the competition this year called for students to draw upon the role of language in Mexican American and Latina/o communities, the power of bilingualism and/or Spanglish and how language and bilingualism are essential to excellence in the third millennium.
The annual CMAS Student Poster Art Scholarship Competition was born from the idea of continuing the long-standing tradition of CMAS’ support of Mexican American/Latina/o art. All full-time students at UT Austin are encouraged to submit a piece of original art on the theme of the year. The CMAS Poster Art Scholarship Committee chooses three works of art and the top three student entries are awarded a scholarship for the spring semester.
The first place winner of the CMAS Student Poster Art Scholarship Competition has the opportunity to work one-on-one with nationally recognized visual artist Sam Coronado of Coronado Studios to produce 25 serigraphs for the Center. The winning student receives ten copies of their work to add to their portfolio. All three winners will be on display at CMAS during the spring semester 2013.
In addition to the scholarship award, four students will receive awards drawn from the Américo Paredes Endowed Scholarship for the spring semester 2013. These awards focus on research, community service, and commitment to educational achievement.
Refreshments will be provided.
