In this portfolio plática, Crystal M. Kurzen will discuss the methods by which contemporary Chicana/os narrate self and community through reworking and reconceptualizing traditional autobiography. While early Chicano authors often wrote their life stories in ways that mirrored conventional generic forms, contemporary Chicana writers like Pat Mora offer alternative models of life narrative that include such artifacts as photographs, dichos, and recipes, pushing generic boundaries to accommodate their lives, their stories, and their worldviews.
