Angela Valenzuela

Angela Valenzuela is a professor in Education Policy and Planning Program within the Department of Educational Administration at The University of Texas at Austin where she also serves as the director of the University of Texas Center for Education Policy.  Other campus affiliations include the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Cultural Studies in Education program within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education.

Professor Valenzuela’s research and teaching interests are in the sociology of education, minority youth in schools, education policy, immigration and education, and urban education reform.  She is currently developing curriculum for and conducting research on Academia Cuauhtli, a Saturday academy that she co-founded at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Culture Center in January 2015.
