History and Sociology Programs Top Rankings

U.S. News & World Report ranks 14 Liberal Arts programs among nation's best

AUSTIN, Texas -April 1, 2008- U.S. News & World Report named The University of Texas at Austin's Latin American History program as the nation's best in its 2009 rankings of America's Best Graduate Schools. Thirteen other Liberal Arts programs made the list, based on expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students.

The rankings are in the March 28 edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine.

The College of Liberal Arts' graduate school rankings:

Economics: 25th
- Labor Economics: 14th

English: 19th
- American Literature after 1865: 20th

History: 19th
- Latin American History: 1st

Political Science: 25th

Psychology: 12th
- Behavioral Neuroscience: 12th
- Clinical Psychology: 16th
- Social Psychology: 13th

Sociology: 14th
- Sex and Gender: 16th
- Sociology of Population: 5th
