Jefferson Book Club Meeting: Herman Melville, "The Lightning-Rod Man"

Wed, October 1, 2014 | WAG 403B

4:30 PM

The reading for this meeting of the book club, “The Lightning-Rod Man” by Herman Melville, succinctly raises questions about modern science, God, and what human beings can hope for with respect to their deepest worries. It’s brief (less than 5 pages), chilling, and profound, and has material that should make for a very rich discussion.

This meeting will be led by Dr. Erik Dempsey, who teaches in the Jefferson Center and serves as Assistant Director.

The text is available online here: Paper copies are available for pick-up in BAT 2.116.

PLEASE NOTE: The time for this meeting is half an hour earlier than the usual meeting time.
