Girl Fight!

Fri, October 13, 2006 | GEB 3.312

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Practitioners working in the juvenile corrections area are witnessing a growing number of young women entering into probation, parole, and correctional units because they have committed serious and violent crimes. In this presentation, Dr. Jemel Aguilar outlines a theoretical framework that attempts to explain young women's involvement in violence. Using examples from a research study with a sample of female offenders in correctional programs and female students in an alternative school setting, Dr. Aguilar will provide audiences with some insight into what these young women said about their violent behavior. Dr. Jemel Aguilar is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work.
