Dr. Desley Deacon has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Australian National University. Her areas of research are gender, feminism, and modernity; biography; history and sociology of the culture of social science. Dr. Deacon was Director of Women's Studies at UT from 1999-2001. Her forthcoming book is called "Mary McCarthy: Four Husbands, A Lover, and A Friend" (Unversity of Chicago Press).
