Nancy Hazen-Swann

Associate FacultyPh. D.,

Professor in the Human Dev & Family Sci, College of Natural Sciences

Dr. Hazen studies the development of social competence and peer relationships in early childhood. She is interested in how children's relationships in the family relate to their developing social-emotional adjustment and peer interaction styles. Currently, she and Dr. Jacobvitz are following 120 families that were first observed before the birth of their first child. They are investigating relations between parents' representations of attachment, their caregiving patterns, and their children's developing social-emotional competence in infancy, toddlerhood, and middle childhood. Dr. Hazen is Editor of the book Action In Context: Perspectives on Early Development and has published her research in Child Development, Developmental Psychology, and related journals. She has received research grants from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Science Foundation, and the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health.
