Black Diaspora Scholars

Black Diaspora Scholars (BDS) is the AADS department's student group, staffed by the AFR Undergraduate Coordinator, Nia Crosley. It is strongly encouraged that BDS members be AFR majors.

All AFR majors are automatically inducted into BDS, which acts as a student advisory committee for the AADS department. This larger body will often be asked to vote on measures proposed by the BDS exec board, which is a 5-6 person representative group of BDS. The Exec Board works closely with the Undergraduate Coordinator on special projects related to the following issues:

- Recruitment to the AFR major and AFR classes

- Advising

- Campus Issues

- AFR Coursework

If students wish to become more involved with BDS, they are invited to submit a letter of interest to the Undergrad Coordinator, Nia Crosley, at ncrosley@austin.utexas.edu. Invites to the 14-15 BDS Exec Board will be finalized at the end of August 2014.
