Course Description
The purpose of this seminar is to provide students with an orientation towards both the broad field of cultural studies and to the particular processes involved with gaining a degree through the Center for Cultural Studies. Discussions will center on the various ways people make careers, conduct research, and teach under the auspices of cultural studies. In this regard, the core content of this seminar features a range of speakers--both from the program in Folklore and Public Culture and from across the UT campus-whose work is variously construed as cultural studies. We will spend a good portion of this course assessing the current academic landscape and consider effective strategies and tactics for making your way through this terrain.
