Course Description
This course will investigate the complex relationship of two of the most prominent features of modern mass culture: sport and the media. Because these institutions reflect the values of the society in which they are situated, they are useful prisms through which to gain insights into the contemporary world. Recognizing the need for a historical perspective, this course will attempt to deepen our understanding of the ways by which sport and the media have affected one another over time. We will also focus on using different forms of media as tools to explore issues of race, gender, and nationalism in sport.
