Course Description
This research course will explore the relationship between racial ideology and notions of citizenship as they shape ideas of national and transnational identity. The aim is to highlight the relational and contingent nature of all racial and ethnic groups, to examine the emergence of diasporic and transnational communities, and explore the ways in which history, custom, culture, and law have shaped national identities based on changing concepts of citizenship, patterns of immigration, and racial formations.
