Course Description

This is a reading, writing, and discussion course which seeks to examine the relationship of sport and fitness, discover how our attitudes toward sport and fitness activities have changed over time, and how the mass media has facilitated that change. We will also examine various treatments of sports and fitness topics to understand how the general trends of American culture find expression in those media productions. In addition to the required texts, students will be expected to read assigned newspaper and magazine articles and to attend an occasional outside activity such as a film or lecture.
