Graduate Admissions
Applicants must submit documents showing that they meet the minimum requirements set by The University of Texas Graduate School, namely:
- A bachelor’s degree
- 3.0 GPA or higher on all upper-division and graduate coursework
- Official GRE score (taken since October 2004)
- Official TOEFL or IELTS score (International applicants only)
Application for Admission
The Department only accepts applications for the fall semester. We do NOT defer admission.
Application materials are collected in the Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC), as well as the Department of American Studies. The application deadline is December 15th. Please do not submit items other than those requested.
Submit the following items to GIAC:
- Application for admission
(Note that letters of recommendation are now submitted via email--there is a place in the application to enter the names and email addresses of your recommenders) - Application fee (nonrefundable)--$50.00 for US applicants; $75.00 for International applicants
- One copy of official transcripts for all senior colleges & universities attended
- Official GRE scores (the ETS code for UT is 6882)
- Official TOEFL or IELTS scores (International applicants only)
Submit the following materials to the Department of American Studies:
- Personal statement
- Writing Sample
- Copies of college transcripts
