Human ecology in arctic and arid zones (Canadian Arctic, Ethiopia, Afghanistan); anthropology and education; anthropology and museology; visual anthropology; interethnic relations (SW Bulgaria); the culture of poverty in post-socialist Bulgaria.

During August 29-31, 1996 the Association for Balkan Anthropology organised a major international conference in Sofia on the theme: "The Role of Ideology in Balkan Anthropology" . In collaboration with Jerome B. Bruner and Irven DeVore (Harvard University). A one-year anthropology course for upper elementary grades produced by Education Development Center with Grants from National Science Foundation.
