ANT 393 • Visual Anthropology
2:00 PM-5:00 PM
Still and moving images are an important part of ethnographic research and are important ethnographic descriptive and analytical tools. There are important theoretical and methodological implications of these tools and important discussions ongoing about the analysis of visual media. This course will explore media making in visual anthropology, and the analysis and representation of everyday life. The goals of the course are to look at visual communication and representation in many different contexts and to analyze how everyday images influence our construction of a shared reality and how we interpret others' behavior. Each of you will collect and analyze visual images.
