Course Description
This course will explore the relationship of indigenous people to the Mexican state. It will begin with a historical look at this relationship over the course of the last 500 years. However, there will be a particular emphasis on the recent organization of indigenous peoples throughout the country to put forward collective rights claims and to pursue some level of autonomous control over their lives and their futures.
