ANT 392P • Intro to Graduate Folklore

The seminar will begin with an overview of the history of folklore studies. Highpoints in the study of myth and ritual will also be covered. Other topics will include the Frankfurt School, orality and literacy, Bourdieu's work on taste, performing arts and mass media.
Students will be expected to come to class with a question or comment for discussion. In addition, each student will write a short mid-term essay, and a final term paper of fifteen to twenty pages to be submitted at the end of the semester.
