Course Description
The purpose of this course is to explore the diverse ways in which Mexican Americans experience and define their culture from an anthropological perspective. To that end, the first part of the course will deal with the position of Mexican Americans as a racial minority Æ historically and in a contemporary sense. The rest of the course will be devoted to particular aspects of Mexican American expressive culture Æ poetry and art Æ as well as socio-cultural perspectives. This course is meant to provide an overview of various cultural practices that show how Mexican Americans maintain, create, and reproduce culture in their every day lives.
