Anthropology Seminar Series presents: Jenna Johnson-Hanks

Fri, September 25, 2009 • 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM • BUR 214

"Aggregation Problems"

Anthropology professor Jenna Johnson-Hanks will be presenting on the topic of 'aggregation problems'. How should we think analytically about population-level regularity? Does it have a basis in cultural practice, planful or intentional action, or structural constraint? If so, how? And if not, how do such regularities emerge? This paper uses four cases, two empirical (reproductive intentions in sub-Saharan Africa & global rates of diabetes or asthma) and two in simulation (intergenerational mobility and the Schelling game) to explore these questions.

This talk is free and open to the public.
