Dr. James Brow has brought us pictures depicting life in the village of Kukulewa in north-central Sri Lanka. The first ones show phases of irrigated rice cultivation. The last ones show Kandappu, the village's anumatirala (spirit-medium) going into trance at a healing ceremony for a young woman who was believed to be afflicted by a malevolent spirit.
