Multiple Former and Current Graduate Students Receive Awards, Fellowships, and Grants

Noman Baig (Social, research on markets in Karachi, Pakistan) received the Wenner Gren Grant in May 2012 for his doctoral research and has just been informed that he received a grant from the National Science Foundation for the same project.
Hafeez Jamali (Social, research on Baluchistan, Pakistan) received a three month fellowship at Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin to work on his thesis. ZMO is the only German research institute devoted to an interdisciplinary and comparative study of the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and South and Southeast Asia from a historical perspective. Hafeez is currently in Berlin.
Mubbashir Rizvi (Social, fieldwork on peasantry in Pakistan) received a fellowship from the American Institute of Pakistan Studies for additional field research in Pakistan. He is there this summer.
Can Aciksoz (Social, research on disability and violence in Turkey), PhD 2011, received a two year post-doc at the College of William and Mary and will start in the Fall of 2012.
Finally, Maryam Kashani became a 2012-2013 National Academy of Education/Spencer Dissertation Fellow.
