Graduate Students Barr and Maitra receive Named Continuing Fellowships
Posted: May 10, 2013
Congratulations to Andrew Barr (Ph.D. candidate in Physical Anthropology) and Saikat Maitra (Ph.D. candidate in Cultural Forms) for each receiving a Named Continuing/Endowed Graduate School fellowship for the 2013-2014 academic year!
Barr's research addresses questions regarding the impact of changing global climate on early human evolution and adaptation. Using fossil collections from two sites in Ethiopia, his dissertation research uses links between anatomy and habitat use in fossil antelopes to reconstruct the habitats occupied by our early ancestors.
Maitra's dissertation project is "Laboring to Create Magic: The New Youth Worker In Kolkata." He is working to reveal how transformations in labor practices have shifted from socialist to neoliberal economies in Kolkata, the largest city in the Indian state of West Bengal.
