Undergraduate Programs

The undergraduate program of the Department of Anthropology offers a Bachelor of Arts with a major in anthropology. Anthropologists study humankind in terms of the interaction of biological, social, cultural, and historical processes. In short, anthropology looks at our species holistically. These perspectives give us the following subfields of anthropology:

Social Anthropology

Archaeology

Physical Anthropology

Linguistic Anthropology

Folklore/Public Culture

Undergraduate majors are required to take introductory courses in cultural anthropology, archaeological studies, and physical anthropology. Students then choose electives to focus on one or more areas of anthropology depending upon their academic and career goals. Please see Degree Requirements or consult the Undergraduate Advisor for specific course requirements.

The Anthropology Undergraduate Advising Office is located in EPS 1.130. Current undergraduate majors as well as students who are exploring Anthropology as a major or minor are welcome to contact the Undergraduate Advisor, Courtney Lockhart, at c.lockhart@mail.utexas.edu.
