Cadet Promotions

The cadet promotion system is designed to allow MS I’s and MS II’s with demonstrated qualities of leadership to advance in rank. Promotions will be based on points that are awarded on the basis of academic grades, military science grades, physical fitness, and participation in cadet training, organizations, and activities.

MS I

Initially, all MS I cadets are appointed to the rank of Cadet Private (PVT). The highest rank that can be achieved by an MS I cadet is the rank of Cadet PFC.

MS II

All new MS II cadets, cadets compressing the Basic Course, and Basic Camp cadets placed directly into the MS II class are automatically appointed to the rank of Cadet PFC. Subsequent promotions are based on the accumulation of points by the individual cadets. The highest rank that can be achieved by an MS II cadet is that of Cadet SGT.

MS III

All MS III cadets will initially wear E-6 rank on their uniforms. Their positions within the battalion will be assigned by the LAP Officer.

Procedures

A cadet that has met the point requirements for a promotion should follow this procedure:

  1. Print out the Promotion Worksheet (PDF, 23K)
  2. Fill out the Worksheet
  3. Submit the Worksheet to your squad leader with all pertinent documentation and squad leader verifies
  4. The squad leader will give the Worksheet to the Platoon Sergeant, who will verify by signing it.
  5. The PSG will give the Worksheet to the First Sergeant, who will submit it to the S1.
  6. The S1 determines if the accomplishments are valid and either approves or disapproves it.
  7. Once endorsed, the S1 will initiate promotion orders, Give a copy of the promotion orders to the Human Resource Representative in RAS Rm 110 to place in the cadet's file, and give a copy of the promotion orders to the Company Commander.
  8. Company Commander will hold Promotion ceremony at the beginning or end of the leadership lab.

Promotion Points

Promotion points are not lost after promotion - example: it takes 350 to be promoted to C/PVT-2 and another 350 (for a total of 700) to reach C/PFC. All MS II start the year with 700 promotion points.

  • Cadet PVT-2 500 pts.
  • Cadet PFC 1000 pts.
  • Cadet CPL 1500 pts.
  • Cadet SGT 2000 pts.

To gain promotion points a cadet must fulfill the following criteria. The individual listed to the right is the person who will verify your participation by initialing your Promotion Worksheet (PDF .
