Contracted cadets are eligible for Military ID Cards and can use some of the services provided at local military posts. The military posts listed below are frequently used by the Longhorn Battalion.

Camp Mabry

Camp Mabry is located in Austin between 35th and 45th street along the MOPAC Expressway. It is the headquarters for the Texas National Guard. Cadets with ID cards can take advantage of the Post Exchange (PX). The Camp Mabry PX also sells a complete set of military insignia. In addition to the PX, there is a barber shop, and cleaners in the same building. Cadets cannot buy uniforms at Camp Mabry unless they are in the National Guard or Reserves.

Camp Swift

Camp Swift is a training area located approximately 30 miles outside of Austin between Elgin and Bastrop. FTX’s take place there, and it is used by units from across Texas. They have ranges for the M-9 all the way up the 50 caliber machine gun and extensive training grounds.

Fort Hood

Foot Hood is an immense military base located about 70 miles north of Austin in Killeen. It serves as the base of operations for III Corps and many other units. It has two very large PX’s and a clothing sales store where cadets with Military ID cards can buy uniforms and uniform accessories. In addition, Killeen is a very military town, and there are many civilian stores that sell military goods.  It has every training resource available in the Army and is often used for Basic Rifle Marksmanship, and Ranger Challenge.

Fort Sam Houston

Fort Sam Houston is a military base that is located about 70 miles south of Austin near downtown San Antonio. It is the home of many Army medical resources including the Medical Service Corps Officer and Enlisted Training Programs and the new Brooks Army Medical Center. It has a large PX and a Clothing Sales Store, both of which cadets with ID cards can use.

Camp Bullis

Camp Bullis is located in northwestern San Antonio. Among the assets at Camp Bullis are a Rappelling Tower, Field Leader's Reaction Course (FLRC), Obstacle Course, and Land Navigation Course, Rifle Ranges, and fixed billets.

Caissons Alumni Association

The Texas Caissons are a nonprofit corporate alumni association whose purpose is to support the cadets, cadre and programs of the Army ROTC program at The University of Texas at Austin. The Caissons assist the ROTC program with recognition and mentoring programs, social events, professional material, and "care packages" to summer camp cadets. Recently, they established an endowed scholarship, The University of Texas Caissons Scholarship, to assist outstanding cadets who have committed themselves to the Army ROTC program. The current membership includes former ROTC cadets from the classes of 1951 through the present, Cordettes/Texas Stars and ROTC cadre. It is comprised of active and retired military members and alumni who chose other career fields.

The Texas Caissons
are a continual source of support to our program. Cadets are always welcome at their quarterly meetings. When you get commissioned your first year's membership as a 2LT is free of charge and the second year is only $10.00. Their newsletter is an excellent way to keep up with events at UT ROTC even after you have been commissioned.

The Texas Caissons
are dedicated to acknowledging your achievements and insuring that future generations will have the same opportunities.
