Biography
Major Jose L. Reyes of Austin, TX was commissioned into Army Aviation as the Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Texas at Austin in May 1999 and has a BA from St. Edward's University.
Upon completion of the Aviation Officer Basic Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, and the OH-58D Aircraft Qualification Course, MAJ Reyes was assigned to 1st Battalion (Attack) 82nd Aviation Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as a Platoon Leader, HHC Executive Officer, and Assistant S-3 during two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After completing the Aviation Captains' Career Course at Fort Rucker, AL, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His assignments included G-3 Aviation as an Aviation Operations Officer, deployed in support of OIF as Commander for HHT, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), and 101st CAB Assistant Logistics Officer. In August 2007, MAJ Reyes served in the Texas Army National Guard in the 111th Area Support Group as the A2C2 Officer and 36th Infantry Division G3 Aviation as an Aviation Operations Officer. MAJ Reyes was then assigned to The University of Texas at Austin as an Associate Professor of Military Science in May 2009.
MAJ Reyes' awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Air Medal (Numeral 2), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Bronze Service Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, Army Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. He completed Cavalry Leaders' Course, Aviation Captains Career Course, and Intermediate Level Education.
MAJ Reyes is married to the former Mirna E. Mommaerts and they have two children.
