Biography
MSG Martin Silva enlisted in the Army upon graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1987 and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Benning, GA.
MSG Silva has served the Army in various Airborne, Light, and Mechanized Infantry Units throughout the United States and Overseas, to include 3-41 IN 2nd Armored Division, Ft. Hood, Texas; 3-504 PIR 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; San Antonio Recruiting Battalion, Austin Texas; 1-27 IN Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 4th Ranger Training Battalion, Ft. Benning, Georgia; United Nations Command Honor Guard Company, Yong San, Korea; 2-35 IN Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and 2-27 IN Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He has held leadership positions as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Rifle Company First Sergeant. In addition, he also served as a Recruiter, Recruiting Station Commander, Color Sergeant, Ranger Instructor, Senior Instructor, and Ranger Instructor Quality Control NCOIC.
MSG Silva's military education includes the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Transition Course, Bradley Crew Evaluator Course, Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Jump Master Course, SERE (High Risk), Jungle Operations Training Course, Special Operation Tactics Course, Ranger School, Pathfinder Course, Recruiting School, EO/CO2 Leaders Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Emergency Medical Technician Course (EMT), Total Army Instructor Course, Primary, Basic, and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course. Additionally, MSG Silva is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in History.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Korea Defense Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with the numeral 4, Saudi Arabia Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He has earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge (2nd Award), Expert Infantryman's Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, German, and Canadian Foreign Airborne Wings, Recruiter Ring, Master Parachutist Badge, and the coveted Ranger Tab.
