Lab 1 - Orientation and COL Lawson Magruder, Jr. Award
Cadets get to know the new leadership, a deserving cadet receives scholarship
Posted: January 24, 2008
LTG Magruder (Ret) spoke to all of the cadets briefly about the responsibilities the cadets will face as they transition to the officer corps. Cadet James Morford received the award and scholarship check. His MS IV peers nominated him for this award, which was based on teamwork and dedication to the program. In his thank-you speech, he mentioned a period of time in which he lost focus, but regained it with the help of his peers.
The CO, Cadet Tarak Makecha, gave a presentation to the MS III cadets about Warrior Forge, the large training event that Longhorn Battalion cadets will attend this summer in Ft Lewis, WA. Meanwhile, each of the platoon leaders spoke to their returning cadets about expectations for the new semester and explained the new Leadership Development Process (LDP) and organization. All new cadets filled out essential paperwork and received a tour of the building. Their photo was taken to be posted on the Longhorn Battalion’s wikispace, a member-created and –edited website that provides a centralized and mobile space to post important information and fun features, such as a caption contest.
