Course Description

For students with no particular background in Comparative Politics or Asian government. A flexible paper project encourages building on whatever preparation one brings. Survey of political culture and evolving political institutions in the People's Republic since its 1949 beginning. A good text focusing on national level institutions is supplemented with material on the Chinese revolution, social structure, and local politics from the provinces (many more populous than most countries) down.
