Course Description

This course is the continuation of JPN325K. The primary goal of the course is to increase communicative competence, which requires both accurate and culturally appropriate usage of the language. A variety of conversational styles including the use of honorific and humble forms and men's and women's colloquial speech will be covered. Video clips from Japanese TV shows, dramas, commercials, and animation will be used to enhance the students' communicative competence as well as socio-cultural competence. Students will engage in discussions on various cultural and social topics in order to deepen their knowledge on Japan, its culture, and its people.
