ANS 361 • 22-Japanese Foreign Policy

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce upper-level undergraduates to the foreign and domestic determinants of Japanese foreign policy-making and international relations from the beginning of the modern era (1868) to the present. We will address a wide range of issues, including the Sino-Japanese to Russo-Japanese Wars, the Pacific War, the Japanese foreign policy-making proccess, postwar trade and security relations between Japan and the U. S., Japan's role in Asia, and the implications of the ongoing nuclear crisis in North Korea for Japan.
