3:30 PM-6:30 PM
This course will focus on Japan during the period of the U.S. occupation (1945-1952), which we will study as a comprehensive political, social, economic, and cultural process. While no prior study of Japanese history is required, interested students should plan on beginning class with at least the level of knowledge you would get by reading a short outline history of modern Japanese history.
Discussion-based seminar format. 12-15 page paper and several shorter writing assignments.
