Course Description
Recent representations of Pakastani society, similar to those of other Mulim countries, tend to linger on Islamic politcs and on the oppression of women. Working against the stereotypical representations, the class will introduce students to a range of less covered aspects of Pakastani social life. We shall read novels, see films, discuss historical texts and delve into anthropological literature to cover topics such as class, gender, sexuality, urban processes, ethnicity, sectarianism, glabalization, and political movements in present day Pakistan.
Texts
