Course Description
Over the past 60 years, China has experienced fundamental change and thorough transformation unmatched in nearly any other country. After a survey of the history of the 1949 Revolution and the political system as established in the 1950s, the analytic focus of the course will be on political, social andn economic change in the reform era (since 1979). Issues arising since 1990 will receive particular attention. Specific topics will include, among others: decentralization and recentralization, reform of the state-owned industrial and banking sectors, unemployment and labor migration, and the development of the legal system.
