Course Description
This advanced reading course will examine the poetry and prose of a diverse group of writers who shaped Hindi literature during the nationalist period. The short stories of Premchand, Jainendra Kumar, and Yashpal, and the poetry of Chhayavadins such as Nirala and Mahadevi Varma will form the core. Critical studies in English will also be assigned. Hindi 330 and 384 may not both be counted.
Grading Policy
Mid-term: 20% Final exam: 30% Paper: 40% Class participation: 10%
