Course Description

This course provides a survey of the history of Japanese civilization, from earliest times to the present. We will examine cultural and social trends, as well as political and economic systems during different periods of Japanese history. In addition, we will pay special attention to how Japan's position in the East Asia cultural zone and its interactions with the West impacted domestic events.
