Course Description
Upper-division standing required. This course will focus on Japan during the period of the U.S. occupation (1945-1952), which we will study as a comprehensive political, social, economic, and cultural process. While no prior study of Japanese history is required, interested students should plan on beginning the class with at least the level of knowledge you would get by reading a short outline history of modern Japanese history. Substantial writing component.
