Life and Love in South Indian Literature is an exploration of basic human struggles and emotions in the literary imagination of modern South Indian authors. Using a broad range of works including novels, short stories, plays, students will learn about both the literary style and the recurrent literary themes of South India. By the end of the course, students will have a broad foundation in modern South Indian literature, awareness of its premodern roots, and familiarity with cultural themes, literary practices, and social movements of the region.

informal conversational exchange.

Prerequisite: Malayalam 507 with a grade of at least C. Second year Malyalam I is geared toward training students in the acquisition of different styles of writing with the help of some selected essays and short stories. By the end of the semester, students should be able to write and speak Malayalm without hesitation and narrate a specific topic.
