Elliott's research under this grant will focus on the edition, translation, and comparison of two early sixteenth-century Sanskrit texts on the importance of Kurukshetra as a center for religious pilgrimage. These texts will form the pivot around which the larger project of constructing a history of this dynamic region will turn. During the course of this grant, he will be affiliated with the Centre for Sanskrit Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
