Afsar Mohammad's new collection of poems in Telugu, Voori Chivara (The End of the Village), was published in the first week of January. Afsar has published three volumes of poetry previously, and won the prestigious national award "Bhaashaa Bhaarati Samman" for his poetry in 2007 from the Government of India. Afsar's new book focuses on the idea of the village in post-globalized India, though it also covers various facets of everyday life, touching upon critical aspects including the question of Hindu-Muslim religious identities. Afsar is a trend-setting poet in Telugu who struck a new path by bringing post-Marxist identities into the local literary debates. As a creative writer, Afsar is now working on his new book on the oral and autobiographical narratives of Muslim women in Andhra titled Goreemaa, which means 'white mother' in English.

Afsar is a lecturer for the Department of Asian Studies. He teaches courses in Telugu language, South Asian literature, and South Asian religions.
