Hindi Major Thientam Pham Awarded Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship

Thientam Pham (Plan II and Hindi) has been awarded the Unrestricted Endowed Presidential Scholarship for academic year 2014-2015. The UEPS program was created in 1973 to make available substantial scholarships for outstanding students at the University of Texas at Austin. The UEPS is considered one of the most notable scholarships available to UT students. Students nominated for this honor take heavy academic loads while demonstrating leadership ability and involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. They must be nominated by their academic department in order to be considered for this award.
Thientam is pursuing a degree in Asian Cultures and Languages with a concentration in Hindi and a double major with Plan II Honors. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school with a long-term goal of working as a physician in India. She plans to use her background in Indian Studies along with her medical training to provide health care to marginalized communities in India.
